Pregnant Woman Infections: Let's Get Real and Talk About It!

I know pregnant woman infections aren't a fun topic like baby shower games. However, they're far more critical.

So, let's dive in!

There are traditional Western (like going to your primary care doctor) and alternative treatments for infections in the pregnant woman.

Two important factors to consider are:

1. How NOT to get sick
2. What to do if you do.

A pregnant women can be more at risk of getting sick than a woman who is not pregnant. Why? Because of the added stress on her body.

No matter what the infection, a pregnant woman is far more likely to get an infection if she is depleted. Hence, taking good care of herself is of the utmost importance.

Question: I’m pregnant. How do I reduce my chances of getting sick?

Answer: Listen to your body!!!!!

Your symptoms are your teachers. Getting sick can be a “yoo-hoo.” It might be your body screaming, “HELP, I need something! I wouldn’t be doing this if I had what I needed.”

There is no way we can cover every kind of infection on this site. That would be a tremendous waste of your time, and ours! But, there are a few pregnant woman infections that seem to be of great interest:

Bladder Infections while Pregnant

Kidney Infection while Pregnant

Yeast Infection while Pregnant

What else can you do to avoid getting these pregnant woman infections?

1. Wash hands frequently and get adequate rest.

The pregnant woman’s body is very busy. It has to do all the things it did before the pregnancy PLUS grow an entire other person. Now, that’s a lot of work!

If the pregnant woman does not recharge her batteries, then energy to nourish the baby comes from other places like her immune system. When your immune system is depleted and you come in contact with a pathogen…

Voila! You get sick.

So, how do you know if you’re getting enough rest? Ask yourself one simple question. Am I tired? If the answer is yes, then you need more sleep.

This is not rocket science. When I was pregnant (albeit with twins) I remember being so tired that I had to take a nap every single day…this was not a normal thing for me. Plus, I was working on my first graduate degree and had homework almost every night. I remember that I could not physically do anything else but rest.

In fact, many of my friends knew they were pregnant because they were so freaking tired!

Few things are more important than the health of your baby, which by the way, in case you forgot, is directly related to the health of the pregnant woman caring that baby.

2) Get adequate nutrition.

Eat Well! Another very important way to re-charge your battery is to eat well. If you do not get enough food and nutrients, you body will start using your stores to grow the baby.

Tips on eating well:

• Make sure to take that prenatal vitamin.

• Eat good, whole foods which are more likely to be packed with nutrients.

• Eat organic as much as possible to avoid potentially harmful pesticides.

• Having adequate nutrition helps to prevent infection. Visit our page on nutrition in the pregnant woman for more on this topic.

3) Chill out!

Remember, anger, frustration, and fear are strong, draining emotions. When out of balance, they deplete you, and empty your strength.

Chilling out can be hard to do. Why? Because it may seem that every time you open a book or magazine about pregnancy or babies you see…

Warning! Don’t buy that crib, or Warning! Don’t eat this or that!

Try to take this information in stride. When considering alternative medicine for pregnant woman infections, this can be tricky. You’ll hear a lot more about what NOT to do than what actually works.

Now, let me be clear. I’m not suggesting the pregnant woman ignore valuable information. But if you find yourself obsessing about pregnancy topics, you will get depleted. And therefore, you will be more likely to get sick.

What to do if you lose yourself in stress and obsession:

If you find yourself getting a little stressed over topic such as…

your partner avoids discussions about crib safety and mercury poising like the plague…

try taking slow, deep breaths.

Yes, I know you don’t feel like it. You’re too busy obsessing! Do it anyway!

Let’s try this again. Imagine a stop sign in your head and take a deep breath. Remember, you made it here okay with or without pregnant woman infections. There are babies born all over the world every day to mothers despite whatever you’re freaking out about.

Now, continue with slow, deep, breathing, taking deep breaths that entirely fill up your lungs.

With each exhale, imagine a different body part relaxing. First, your neck and head might relax. Next, your shoulders, then your chest, back, etc. until you get to your toes.

This only takes a few minutes and it’s a sure way to pull yourself out of a ruminating, worrying and obsessing mode.

While pregnant woman infections can be a reality, they can also be treated. This is one reason why proper prenatal care is vital!

Now relax, and enjoy your pregnancy. Don't obsess about pregnant woman infections. Take good care of yourself, and talk to your doctor about anything that worries you.
